Night of Unbelievable Fun: St. Paul Saints - sponsored by MN/American Atheists

On Friday, August 10, 7:00 p.m., we will sponsor a St. Paul Saints baseball game at Midway Stadium, 1771 Energy Park Drive, St. Paul. Arrive early at 5:00 p.m. for a tailgate party in the parking lot.

Our banners will hang in the stadium and we will rename the team the “Mr. Paul Aints.” The team will wear Mr. Paul Aints jerseys during the game, which will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for us and Volunteers Beyond Belief. You may also order in advance a custom Mr. Paul Aints jersey with your name and a number on the back for $69 by visiting our online store.

The letter “S” will be covered up on the word “Saints” throughout the ballpark and we’ll have an information/greeting table at the main entrance. American Atheists president Dave Silverman will throw out the first ceremonial pitch of the game. After the game there will be a fireworks display.

The event is being advertised on the radio and on tens of thousands of pocket calendars as: “Join us for a night of unbelievable fun, sponsored by Minnesota Atheists and American Atheists.”

Special group rate tickets are available in the Outfield Reserved section for $12. (You’ll also receive a voucher for a free hot dog and soda at the game.) These special tickets will be available for a limited time, so get them while they last. To order online, go to saintsgroups.com, go through the Captcha screen, then use the code word “atheist”. Children under 2 who don’t require a seat are free.

This baseball game precedes the Minnesota Regional Atheists Conference co-sponsored by Minnesota Atheists and American Atheists. If you're coming from out of town (or if you're a local looking for extra fun) book a hotel room at the Double Tree Hotel in downtown St. Paul. You can get a special rate if you book your room BEFORE JULY 22.

It's the venue of the aforementioned Regional Atheist Conference. Be sure to register for the conference if you want to attend. Confirmed speakers include PZ Myers, Dave Silverman, Teresa MacBain, Hector Avalos, Ayanna Watson, Andy Thomson, and Robert Price. A downtown pub crawl will follow the end of the conference.

We had an unbelievably good time with our friends from Minnesota Atheists at the Mr. Paul Aint's ballgame. I've believed (pardon the humor) for a long time that this kind of public event is helpful for introducing our neighbors to the joys of godlessness.

It's too bad we lost and the crowd seemed rather subdued, but I had a great time and the fireworks were great.

It would make my day if someone could sing me the New Happy Birthday Song.

I ask someone to do it every year, and I think maybe once someone has done it for me. It's very easy to learn!

I was chatting with Robert Price (one of the conference speakers) tonight about the baseball game. He was thinking of skipping it because he's really not much of a sports fan. I said No No No! This is not a baseball game! This is about the antics that happen between innings! During the actual game you can be chatting with your fellow atheists in the stands!

I couldn't care less about sports, but I'm looking forward to the social event and atmosphere! Hopefully he will change his mind and join us!

Oh, yes, I changed his mind; he'll be there. If I knew Scott Lohman was coming they could sit together and talk about Star Trek all evening. Someone else would have to keep an eye out for foul balls hit our way, though.

I ordered a jersey more than two weeks ago. It's never showed Anyone else order one and receive it yet? Just curious.

    August 9, 2012

    • Eric

The jerseys won't be ready until game day. Those who ordered a jersey from MNA and will be at the game will get their jersey tomorrow at Midway Stadium. Everyone else will be getting their jersey via USPS next week.

Thank you for your comment. My son is only two and goes to bed by 8. Also loud noises bother him.

I really wanted to attend but my child care fell through. Please keep me posted of new events. Typically Friday is best.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you can bring your kids since we'll have about 150 atheists to help you watch them :-)

I'm bringing a few packs of veggie dogs that can be shared among the non-carnivores.

We are going to begin tailgating at 4pm before tomorrow's game. We will have a designated area in "Tailgating space #7" along the back fence near the train tracks. There will be a MN Atheists banner to make us easier to find. There will be some beer available but bring your own drinks if you'd like to add to the fun! Hot dogs will be provided.

Are we meeting before hand to grill? What time and where?

    August 9, 2012

  • Nancy

If you don't care about the pop and hot dog, you can $10 seats in other sections. I did that for 2 of my guests.

    July 20, 2012

  • Eric

I just contacted the Saints and they reserved more tickets for our group! Go to saintsgroups.com to see what's available...but the seats have gotten bought up fast!

    July 20, 2012

  • Ken K.

Note: Today I saw only two seats in L3, but it looks there are many tickets available through the normal (non-discount, non-group section) if one enters through the standard web site entrance. If you want to sit next to fellow heathens, I think you pick section L3, closest to the front and highest seat numbers.

Thank you to all the organizers and promoters of this event!! Great job! I just purchased my tickets after the picnic, and there weren't many left, so hurry peeps!
