Kurt;
The purpose in getting involved with the major parties at the caucus level is that this is where resolutions are introduced and where straw poles are taken, both of which send messages of discontent rippling up the chain of command. Next you go the the county level where you actually get to push your resolutions on to the state level as well as taking and controling as many delegate seats to the state convention as possible. You will also begin to interface with the candidates because here at the local level is where local candidate endorsement takes place and you can directly tell those candidates where they must stand to get your support or you vote or run against them. There are also Congressional district conventions before the state convention. Only by working within these structures can we create change and build upon it. Two example to prove my point; the homosexual movement, if they had not taken an active role in both major parties and steered away from independent escapades they would not be where they are now. Second is the women’s movement, same situation, could not have been accomplished running off in their own little country club party. Be smart, look at history and you will quickly see why we have not yet made it to prime time.
Sincerely,
W. D. (Bill) Hamm
