Flathead Valley Geospatial Meetup

  • Jan 23, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This group was started to bring together geospatial professionals and enthusiasts in the Flathead Valley, including those working in GIS, developing spatial analyses and/or focusing on cartography. We also welcome any developers building mobile apps that are geo-enabled or people working with web-based map applications.

Our first meeting of the Flathead Valley GIS Meetup will be hosted at Plum Creek,[masked]th Ave West, Columbia Falls, MT 59912.

We have brief introductions followed by two brief (10-15 minutes) talks.  The remainder of our time will be used to get to know each other and talk about the future success of our regional sub-group.  Presenters are:

Selita Ammondt (River Design Group, Inc) - Utilization of LiDAR data in hydrologic applications.

• Ryan Dalton (Plum Creek) - Editing OpenStreetMap data on the web.

Since this is an “after hours” meeting, the Plum Creek office front door will be locked after 5:00p. Ryan will plan to be at the front door from 5:45 – 6:00pm to let guests in. If you arrive late (and the doors are locked), please call his cell phone at [masked] so he can let you in.

In order to give us some talking points about future meetings, please take a couple of minutes to answer our short survey.

Great to meet a number of new faces last night! Thank you to all who attended. I thought we had a good turnout for our first meeting, with 12 people sharing their interest in mapping and spatial analysis. Selita gave a great presentation that really surprised a lot of folks about the power of LIDAR imaging. Hopefully I encouraged some of you to start contributing to data to OpenStreetMap.

For future meetings, we agreed that we will target the 3rd Thursday of each month, from 6-8pm. Every other month our meetings will either be focused on technical talks (with more formal, 10-20 minute presentations) or social/networking (unscripted, no agenda, meet at a restaurant/bar). We look forward to seeing you and any new users at our "social" meetup next month!
