A bit of short notice, but our first meetup at Meetup HQ! We can bring food and drink to the space, so long as we clean up after ourselves. And in terms of equipment, we have 3 full sized 19x19s, a single 13x13, and a number of 9x9s for us. I think that's more than enough for the current members. ------ This is our Beginner's Workshop event. Working in affiliation with the NYAMIGO group, the NY chapter of the Igo Amigo organization in Tokyo. Typically held twice a month (some months like November, only once, due to holidays). We welcome and teach people who have only vaguely heard of the game "Go" and teach them how to play the game. After explaining the basic rules, everyone starts on the 9x9 board, playing against instructors and eventually fellow students. As members get stronger, they move up to the full 19x19 board. Typical format: 1-on-1 or small-group instruction early on (depending on # of attendees), then free games later. Normally we're tired and hungry around 5-6pm and will stop then. Afterwards, we might go to a restaurant or bar, but that's entirely optional, and everyone pays their own way or we split the bill. No hard feelings if you have to leave early. It'd be nice if you came roughly on time (subway permitting) Recommended strengths: Total beginner to roughly 10-15kyu. Note: This doesn't mean stronger members aren't welcome to come to just play and have fun, they absolutely are. It's just that the other NYAMIGO instructor, Naoki, and I will be spending more time teaching beginners than playing even games that day. The workshop is free for first-time comers. In honor of this being the 60th NYAMIGO meeting, there's no fee.

The building is locked on weekends, so I have to buzz you in (remember, buzz suite 301), failing that I'll have to come down and open the door physically.

Call me if there's any problems getting in!!
