Ever wonder if you have the legs and lungs for some real distance on the dirt? Now is the time to find out. This is the SECOND of a series of 100k rides at local trails. They should occur around once every two months.

This 100k route for Muleshoe will be EIGHT laps of the following 7.8 mile course which has been FINALIZED!:

http://app.strava.com/activities/32827169

Again, don't bother looking at the times as Strava does funny things about giving people credit for big segments on trail rides even though they bypass much of it.

This ride is self-supported in that there are no water or feed stations mid-lap, but each lap takes you back to the parking area where you can eat/drink/make repairs/throw-up/etc. If you have to bail during a lap for some reason, but wish to continue the ride after fixing the issue, return back to where you left off and pick up the route again. Feel free to ride in a group if you wish and pool resources.

We are using the honor-system here, so have integrity and do not cut the course. If you cannot finish the distance, just do as many full laps as you can. A base-line time will be generated which is what a pro-rider is expected to be able to clear a loop in. If you come under this, chances are you cut the course and you may be disqualified from a finish. MAKE SURE YOU ASK questions about the route ahead of time so you can stick to the route lap on lap.

SCHEDULE:

Please be ready to ride by 7:30am at which time there will be a review of the route, a safety briefing, and some tips after which we will hit the trail in a graduated start of multiple groups.

This ride may take you 2+ hours more than Walnut Creek Did!! Bring lights in case you run past dark.

REQUIRED GEAR:

Helmet, Hydration, and a Mtn-bike in good working order.

You will probably want gloves, some extra gallons of water at your car, snacks, electrolytes, tools, tubes, and the like to keep your bike and yourself going.

BRING LIGHTS! You will likely finish in the dark...

OTHER STUFF:

If anyone wants to cook out, pass out snacks or water, or join for a lap or two to encourage the distance riders, feel free. If you run late, you may want lights to finish that last lap.

Feel free to post up comments and questions or email me directly through Meetup.

RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! 100k on knobby tires 100% off-road is a hard day no matter who you are. Know your limits and know when to throw in the towel and watch everyone else suffer to the end. Things that were easy to clear early in the ride become most difficult and your chances for a crash start to increase exponentially. If you get off to walk, please yield to those who chose to ride that section.

But all that said, this ride is very doable if you are comfortable on your bike, pace yourself carefully, stay hydrated, eat properly during the ride, and have a positive attitude. Even those that seldom ride more than a single lap will find they can finish much of the distance.

Go get some practice in then come out on February 3rd and give it a go!

I hope to see you there!!
