Back to school, back to work and back to MUGL. It's been a lovely summer this year and hopefully your summer holidays have been fun and relaxing. Now it's time to get back to work, but let's have just a bit more fun before we say goodbye to summer.

This time around we have two great speakers, and they're both Norm Walsh (@ndw). Norm will be in town for XML Summer School the week of Sep 14 but is coming over a few days early to speak to us first. He'll be giving two talks: one about the MarkLogic Management API (his day job) and one about XProc (one of his many side jobs).

Norm's abstracts:

Introducing the Management API

MarkLogic 8.0 introduced a much-expanded REST API for managing MarkLogic clusters. We'll explore that API, tweaking settings and spinning up Docker clusters without ever touching the Admin UI or writing a line of XQuery. We'll also cover, at least briefly, the Python API that makes all of this even more scriptable.

Exploring XProc 2.0

The effort at the W3C to build a newer, better, easier-to-use XProc is well underway. We'll look at what the new version will bring, and maybe (just maybe!) get a peek at Norm's implementation.

Norm has spoken at the MUGL before and is well-known in the XML world. He works for MarkLogic but spends much of his time on various standards committees and speaking at XML conferences around the world.

We're at our usual place, the Theodore Bullfrog pub near Charing Cross. And, as usual, we're in the upstairs room with free food and our own private bar with free drinks.

Show up around 6:30 for nibbles, drinks and socializing. Speaker starts about 7:00. Afterward, more drinks and socializing until they throw us out.

See you there.
