Thanks for organizing the meeting! Nice to see a lively R community in Munich.

Is anyone participating actively in Kaggle? I have little statistical education, so can't offer much on my own, but I would very much be interested to see how you work on the problems and to pick up some basic techniques.

Cheers, I was previously working on the ASAP and bio-response challenges and currently I'm participating on one challenge (HHP) and I'm looking for something else. We could arrange a team and set up a nightly hackathon on some new challenge like GE or the event competition

Maybe someone else would be interested in joining us, a HPC specialist would be a great deal because the data is considerably big :)

    Hallo Zusammen,

comSysto würde gerne das erste useR Munich Meetup 2013 hosten. Drinks und Beer for free. Habe mal einen Termin und Location eingefügt. Passt das?
Ich würde kurz (ca. 10 min) über "R Zertifizierung Idee, Plan und Zukunft" sprechen. Hat jemand noch einen weiteren Talk zum anbieten?

So what about giving it a new try in the new year? How about january?

I am also interested in big data and its applications to business intelligence.

  • Verena D.

Sounds great! I'll try and be there, too.

I'm interested in big data and text mining, btw.

Hi all, and sorry for the long inactivity! I'll go ahead and put some more effort in the organization of this group in about 2-3 weeks - so stay tuned ;-)

I guess it'll be a good idea to define the group's focus areas together at a first meetup. Personally, computational finance would not be my primary choice as a focus as I'm more into HPC, Web-Crawling/-Scraping and Big Data, but I'm sure we can come up with a portfolio that offers a big range of mutual interests. I'll check my calender and be back with possible options for an informal get-together this year. But you might already save the following date-range for a possible first "full-grown" meetup: somewhere between February 15th and February 26th 2013.

    What do you think?

    October 10, 2012

  • Markus S.

Great idea. I will be available too!

I am interested in big data (noSql dbs) and R.

  • Alex N.

Hi, I'm a PhD student in statistics, focused mostly on machine-learning techniques.

I'm interested in any fun one might get from R. These are the classification/regression tasks NLP (especially the kaggle challenges ), and various bio-related problems with interesting data. I haven't been into financial analysis deep enough though, however it's very interesting for me and right now I'm on Coursera's "introduction to computational finance"

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
