Museum Hopping 9: Afternoon in Ueno

About a year ago, G.A made a suggestion to check out the garden of the Tokyo National Museum. It took me a year, but I am finally organizing an event to visit the garden. The garden is open to the public twice every year during spring and autumn, and there are five historic tea houses in it. This event may not coincide with the height of foliage season, but we should be able to appreciate the garden with some colored leaves. After Strolling through the garden, you can check out the permanent collection of the Tokyo National Museum or their special exhibition, Todaiji Temple and Monuments of Tenpyo Culture, if you choose to do so. However, I will check out the special exhibition before the meet up event by myself and will spend the second half of the afternoon at Tokyo National Museum of Western Art to see an exhibition of Albrecht D?rer with some of you.

Albrecht D?rer is widely regarded as the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance, and is most famous for his prints. The artist revolutionized the print making using the latest technology of his time. Even to our contemporary eyes, it is astonishing to see his detailed print works. The exhibition showcases 157 works, and marks the first display in Japan of the renowned Melbourne collection of D?rer works assembled at the end of the 19th century by the Englishman Barlow. I hope some of you are interested in checking out this exhibition.
