Movie: Herb & Dorothy

Herb & Dorothy is a documentary about an art collector couple who built one of the most impressive collection of contemporary art. Their story is extraordinary because they are ordinary people like some of you and me with modest salaries. They just happened to have good eyes and sincere devotion to art. Without having deep pockets like Charles Saatchi does, they amassed art works with two principle: the piece had to be affordable, and it had to be small enough to fit in their one-bedroom Manhattan apartment. Their collection includes works by world-renowned artists like Sol LeWitt, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Chuck Close, Robert Barry, and Lawrence Weiner. When they started to collect art in the early 1960s, a very little attention was paid to Minimalism and Conceptual Art, and these artists were virtually unknown. What a incredible story. I did not know anything about Herb & Dorothy until Naoko-san mentioned to me about this documentary. I am interested in knowing more about them. Are you interested in checking out this documentary with me?
