Meetup Description: Join NAAAP Philadelphia and the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association, as we increase hope and awareness during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. This event is graciously sponsored by the American Cancer Society and Gilead Sciences, Inc.
Did you know that cancer is the leading cause of death among Asian Americans, even though heart disease is the first among other racial and ethnic groups in the United States? Colorectal cancer rates are higher among Chinese Americans than most other Asian groups, yet only about 40% of Asian Americans report getting screened during the last five years. Chronic Hepatitis B affects 1.25 million Americans, half of whom are Asian Americans. Learn more about how colorectal cancer and Hepatitis B affect Asian American communities, and how you as a leader can increase awareness among your friends, family, and loved ones.
This event coincides with the pick-up of daffodils that were ordered through the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days philanthropy program. Daffodil orders that were placed through NAAAP Philadelphia are available for pick-up throughout this event.
