Radnor Lake Hike 5:30PM on 6/23

Come out for a hike at beautiful Radnor Lake.

Meeting Place: Bike rack at the Nature Center at the Granny White Pike entrance to the park
Hike Distance: We usually do both ridges, about 4.5 miles. You can also break off and do a shorter hike if you like.
Estimated Hike Time: up to 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate Terrain / Brisk Pace (only a few short rest breaks)

1. DO NOT enter Radnor Lake from the Franklin Road side. Because the road is blocked to vehicle traffic through the park, you must enter from Granny White Pike/Otter Creek Road - on maps, Otter Creek Road looks like a through street for cars, but it is not.

2. There are no signs for Radnor Lake on Granny White Pike - look on the map for where Otter Creek Road intersects Granny White Pike and turn there.

3. Pets are not allowed on the trails, and observe traffic flow and parking rules.

4. You can reach me (Tim) at[masked] (cell).

I was thinking of joining you all, but I also looked it up on the TN state park website and found that it was rated difficult. I don't think I'm up for that yet. Do you ever hike the "moderate" trails. I'd love to join.

Glad to help. There's a couple of us that love hiking at Radnor Lake but are not ready for Ganier or South Cove yet. We are always there Monday and Thursdays to hike. We do hike at a brisk pace and cover 3.5 miles in 1 hr. Hope to be ready for the ridges later this year so we can join you.

Hi Tim, You mentioned that this is a moderate hike. Do you hike Ganier Ridge? This ridge is rated Difficult. Just wondering. Thanks.

This hike includes both ridges, including Ganier. If you click the Difficulty link, you'll see the hiking meetup group's definitions. For Moderate, its "Trail hike of at least 3 miles, at least 300 feet elevation gain climbing. Examples: full loop at Radnor Lake (both Ganier Ridge and South Trails), Mossy Ridge at Percy Warner"

Thanks Tim. I guess what Radnor rates as difficult and what NHM rate as moderate entirely different. I've hiked Ganier and it was hard. Don't think I'm ready yet. Maybe later this year.
