February Meeting Recap

Our group is growing!

We had another record turnout of about 60 folks last night, and we had a great time of sharing and connecting to film projects. There were many folks there who had come in January and plenty of new faces who were first-timers. I had a blast seeing all the connections happening.

2014: The Year of Execution

I heard several folks say last night they were going to stop thinking about it or talking about it, and just do it. We saw a young director step out of his comfort zone, and we heard words of wisdom from an actor who finally decided that life is too short not to chase your dream. It was a very powerful and moving experience!

What if I Missed My Chance?

Several folks asked me if they could submit their scripts or sign-up later for film projects. Yes! Send me your log lines and give me some background on your project. For those who want to sign-up to help produce a film in progress, please contact the individual team leader of the project or projects that interest you here (those reading this on your mobile phone will not see the email link, so please view this page on your desktop computer or in desktop view):

For those who want to get involved later in the year and fear missing out completely, don't worry, your role may not be needed until later in the year anyway. For example, if you are doing post-production work or scoring, that comes in later after shooting. If our current film projects move along well with lots of help from the group, we will drop another round of new films to produce.

What is this month's focus?

Team leaders are focusing this month on putting their film teams together. Finding the right director, cinematographer or DP, screenwriter, and producers, along with lead actors and extras will take some time and effort. This is an important step that will setup your films for success, so don't rush the process.

Team leaders should schedule meetings to talk through your scripts, interview potential partners, and find places for the folks who indicated a desire to help. In many cases, you will first need to find a good director who can walk you through this process. We all applaud you for standing up and leading in the first place!

If anyone in the group does not get connected to a role with one of the active films or maybe doesn't hear back from a Team leader, please do not worry. Some Team leaders may be on a slower schedule, trying to figure out other areas of their production, or not ready for your role yet. Or they couldn't read your sign-up information! Wait a week, then contact them through their Meetup.com profile on the link above (again, mobile view does not offer this link).

As I mentioned in the meeting, I will post a Vision Calendar soon that roughly outlines where we should be each month with our projects to ensure we complete them this year.

Social Media Content Reminder

Remember as you work on your films, have meetings, and start pre-production, don't forget to build the story around your journey to make your film by sharing photos, tweets (hashtag #nashfilm), thoughts, and resources. This is important marketing to build momentum for when you launch your film so people anticipate and get excited to see it. And don't forget to rate our group with 5-stars, share our link, and tell others about it (look for an email on it from Meetup.com)!

To more frequently communicate with active members (other than directly emailing them through their meetup profile pages (*cough desktop view only *cough), please request to join our Facebook group page.

In Summary

Everyone heard from our film team leaders about their scripts, and what actors, locations, and props were needed. From there, we had sign-up tables for those who wanted to be considered for a role on the scripts they liked. This month, those who signed-up should hear from their team leaders about next steps, auditions, and planning meetings.

February's Meetup was again a huge success due to the amazingly talented folks who came. Spread the word to your friends to join us and let them know that there could be an opportunity for them around the corner.
