Polished Clay Balls or Hikaru Dorodango
Popular among plasterers in Japan!
Learn the art of making polished clay balls, or Hikaru Dorodango, using earth and lime plasters in this hands-on workshop, lead by Kyle Holzueter, earthen plasterer extraordinaire, visiting us from Japan!
"Hikaru Dorodango are balls of mud, molded by hand into perfect spheres, dried, and polished to an unbelievable luster. The process is simple, but the result makes it seem like alchemy." -Bruce Gardner
Hikaru means 'Shining', and Dorodango, 'Balls of clay or lime compressed with the hands and formed into perfect spheres.'
Hikaru Dorodongo, like all craft, can be taken to any level- and this craft is practiced in Kindergartens as well as Fine Arts studios in Japan. Thus: family friendly! Artisans of all ages can partake in this fun craft!
Registration for this 40$ workshop is taking place through Eventbrite. Please follow this link to register and reserve a spot (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/japanese-plasters-polished-clay-balls-workshop-tickets-16553930251?utm_campaign=order_confirm&utm_medium=email&ref=eemailordconf&utm_source=eb_email&utm_term=eventname)! (Eventrbite takes less of a cut of the registration fees than does Meetup, and we need to support our instructors travel and expertise as much as we can, thanks!)
We will be prepping the Dorodongo for each participant days in advance, so please be sure to register!
