Happy New Year everyone!
I want to extend a warm welcome to the many new members who joined in the last couple of weeks, and of course a warm hello to all our members - those of you who have come out to meetups and those still planning on it (this is the year!)
The Chicago Natural Building Meetup is a group for anyone who wants to attend or host a Natural Building project or a Natural Building related event. If you want to build a cob pizza oven or a cob chicken coop, post your event here (remember to email me so I can announce it to the group!). If you want to build a straw bale shed, play house or other mini structure, post it here. If you want to show a Natural Building related film in your living room, post it here. No city, state, or county building codes prevent Natural Building...they just prevent building actual houses in many (not all!) cases. So we can do everything short of that!
In the meantime, come out on the 4th Saturday of every month for our Monthly Meeting. Activities vary by month. This year we are building a cob garden wall at my house in Humboldt Park, so as the weather gets warmer there will be lots of opportunities to get muddy!
In January, we will be collecting Phragmite reed for thatching (still finalizing the location after a hot tip from Martha- update coming soon). Please RSVP if possible so I get a sense of how many to expect~
And if you feel so inclined, please kick in a few bucks for the maintenance of the site. Meetup charges $72.00 every 6 months for the Meetup Group page, so any contributions are appreciated.
In closing, let me just say that the world needs us. The world needs us to build this way, with mud and sand and straw and sticks and stones. The world needs us to learn these building skills and teach others. And we need a world in which Natural Building takes precedence over manufactured materials, money transactions, and synthetic environments.
So let's do it! Looking forward to a fantastic 2013 with you all-
