Details

Right now, the suicide rate amongst Native American youth between the ages of 10-24 is catastrophic; 3.5 to 7 times higher than the national average. Reconnecting The Circle wants Native youth to know they are valued and for non-Native youth to understand that value.

Reconnecting The Circle ("RTC") wants to reach 100,000 youth between the ages of 14-19 by December 31, 2011 in order to change their hearts and minds about the value of Native Americans. We plan to connect with over 90% of the youth through our website and online campaigns.

We'll discuss our campaign ideas with Net2DC attendees and ask for help brainstorming more ways to build an online grassroots campaign and engagement strategy, with the following questions in mind:

  1. What's the fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to reach our contingents online?
  2. How can we tailor our compelling message for web and social media platforms?
  3. Once we connect w/ youth online, how can we motivate action? What are some best practices?

Please join us on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 7:00pm to enjoy refreshments and meet fellow attendees. RTC's presentation will begin at 7:20pm.

About RTC
The mission of Reconnecting The Circle ("RTC"), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, is to encourage people to learn about Native American people and cultures, and to develop a more meaningful and complete perspective on Indian Country.

RTC launched in the Fall of 2006 with a National High School Essay Contest. Each year, up to ten students (5 Native American and 5 non-Native) are awarded $2,500 each.
