June 24: APIs for Meaningful & Impactful Advocacy

  • Jun 24, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • Affinity Lab

The time of casting a broad advocacy net to your audience is past. Organizations, whether they know it or not, are swimming in data that helps to create strong ties with their membership and advocates to make real change in the world.

Imagine pushing notifications to your strongest advocates when legislation about the issues they care about most drops in the state legislature. We live in a world where our audiences expect us to know them, and expect that we are not going to waste their time.

You are probably still using valuable staff time to gather relevant data, but there is a better way. APIs are the pipes that give you access to all of that structured data and tell the relevant story to the people and governing bodies you are trying to move.

Join us June 24th to hear about some of those APIs you can access today, and then participate in a creative discussion about what is possible.

Presenters:
Gabriela Schneider - Director, Sunlight Foundation
Anthea Watson Strong - Google, Civic Innovation

On vacation -- sorry to miss this one. I'd love it if someone can post a synopsis of the discussion and any presentation materials so we can follow up after.

Hey folks, I'm really excited to see all of you at the event tomorrow evening! We're going to be spending about half our time listening to your advocacy ideas/problems and trying to come up with some ideas to use APIs to help. Start thinking about your questions now, and feel free to post them here.
