NetSquared DC Message Board › Calling all DC-based nonprofits/activists/techies for social good!
San Francisco, CA
TechSoup Global and Code for America are co-hosting an idea generator for social good tech projects on March 12th at 1776 in D.C.
RSVP at http:/dcgenerator.eventbrite.com
What’s a idea generator? It is a facilitated design-thinking based discussion where attendees talk about problems that they face in their social-benefit work. Our session leader, Marnie Webb, will lead a diverse group through a participatory exercise that will result in actionable ideas that can become problem statements that can be solved via technological interventions. In other words, we will generate ideas for developers at social good hackathons, so the apps and projects they create are actually useful for nonprofits and activists on the ground.
The generator will be held from 10:00-12:00 on March 12. After a lunch break, we will be inviting developers and hackers to showcase some of their projects so the nonprofit/activist community can give them feedback on what they have built.
Why are we doing this? There has been a lot of action in recent years around open government data and civic hacking. However, nonprofits have not always been invited to participate in the conversation. We want to change that. Nonprofits and community activists are the ones who are trying to address social problems on a daily basis. We think they should be informing the tech tools that are being created to solve these social issues.
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be served!
The event will be held from 9:00-5:00- please join for part 1, part 2, or both:
9-10am - Breakfast and networking
10-12pm - Generator Activity
12pm-1pm - Lunch
