Thanks to all of you again for coming out. We had (at my rough estimate) 67 people at Tuesday's meetup. Wow, just wow!
If you have any pics from the evening, please feel free to post them on to the event page (look to the upper right of the page for the UPLOAD button).
New Space Shout-Out
A big shout-out to our host, The Irish House. From all of the comments and feedback we've gotten so far, it seems you guys love it almost as much as we do. Please make plans to return, tell your friends, and/or show them some love on any and all social channels that you participate in:
Next Meetup - Tuesday, May 6th
Mark your calendars, as we will be back at the Irish House on Tuesday, May 6th for our next Meetup. We are currently finalizing the details (and pretty stoked about this one), but want to make sure you've got it marked on your calendar.
Got a topic you'd like to learn more about?
Don't be shy, please share any ideas that you have about a topic you'd like to learn more about, or if you have something that you're working on and would like to share, run it by us. We would love to claim that we know everything that's going on around New Orleans, but the truth is that we just can't keep up, so we're relying on you to keep us in the loop.
As mentioned at the meetup, there is no shortage of events that our members are either producing or participating in. Here are a few:
FIRST Robotics Regional Competition -- April 4 & 5
Free event. Area high school students build robots then compete with other schools through skills drills.
Big Easy International Film Festival - April 3 - 6
Film fest that features short films organized into themed programs such as "Dark Comedy" and "Horror/Thriller". This year's event has expanded to two locations - Kerry Irish Pub and Indywood Theater in the Marigny. Check out the lineup of films you won't see anywhere else. @bigeasyfilmfest
LaunchFest Play - April 30
Upcoming event associated with the NOLA Game Developers Meetup
Details to come, but they are looking for attendees, volunteers, presenters, game pitches, and demos. Keep watching http://lp.co/launchfest, and follow @launchfest & @launchfestplay for more info.
New Orleans Open Source Hackathon -- May 9 & 10
If 24 hours of developers and designers jammin' hard on existing open source projects, then this is the hackathon for you. Registration is open and they are looking for sponsors.
Other Meetups Mentioned
City of New Orleans is on the hunt for project managers. Check out http://www.nola.gov/jobs/ for openings and details
Thanks to Max Gaudin of AirPnP for his eloquent and very entertaining story behind the source of this projects inspiration (it took everything I had not to interject PEE into that word, thanks to the presentation). Check out http://airpnp.co, even add your own lavatory to the list, and be sure to follow @leakeasy on Twitter to watch their progress.
Jeffrey Goodman is looking for folks to kick around ideas around making information more useful for the masses. Hit him up for details or to schedule a mini-meetup.
Finally, Chris Boudy mentioned that he is working on creating a visual timeline of all things tech related in New Orleans. If you have something that you think is worth sharing (and we're pretty sure everything is worth sharing), visit http://history.neworleanstech.net, then click on Help Us to add your noteworthy item.
See you on May 6th,
