Follow-Up from April's AMAZING Meetup

From: Adele T.
Sent on: Thursday, April 3, 2014 10:00 AM

Thanks to all of you again for coming out. We had (at my rough estimate) 67 people at Tuesday's meetup. Wow, just wow!

If you have any pics from the evening, please feel free to post them on to the event page (look to the upper right of the page for the UPLOAD button).

New Space Shout-Out

A big shout-out to our host, The Irish House. From all of the comments and feedback we've gotten so far, it seems you guys love it almost as much as we do. Please make plans to return, tell your friends, and/or show them some love on any and all social channels that you participate in:

Next Meetup - Tuesday, May 6th

Mark your calendars, as we will be back at the Irish House on Tuesday, May 6th for our next Meetup. We are currently finalizing the details (and pretty stoked about this one), but want to make sure you've got it marked on your calendar.

Got a topic you'd like to learn more about?

Don't be shy, please share any ideas that you have about a topic you'd like to learn more about, or if you have something that you're working on and would like to share, run it by us. We would love to claim that we know everything that's going on around New Orleans, but the truth is that we just can't keep up, so we're relying on you to keep us in the loop.

Upcoming Events

As mentioned at the meetup, there is no shortage of events that our members are either producing or participating in. Here are a few:

  • NOLA's Mini Maker Faire -- April 5
50% off when you use the PROMO CODE "NET2NO"
Showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. See what people are making, sharing what they are learning, and get your hands hacking. All ages are welcome. @NOLAmakerfaire

  • Big Easy International Film Festival - April 3 - 6
Film fest that features short films organized into themed programs such as "Dark Comedy" and "Horror/Thriller". This year's event has expanded to two locations - Kerry Irish Pub and Indywood Theater in the Marigny. Check out the lineup of films you won't see anywhere else. @bigeasyfilmfest

  • French Quarter Fest GE Capital / New Orleans Tech Stage - April 10 -13
GE Capital led the charge and scraped together a handful of local tech companies willing to open their wallets to sponsor the newest "big stage" at this year's event. A killer lineup PLUS a booth that will expose the companies, community and culture that the tech community has created here will be manned by reps from these companies. Stop by and say "hi".

Sponsoring companies include: GE Capital, GNO Inc, Carrollton Group, Search Influence, CotingaSoft, Fat Happy Media, TurboSquid, 365 Connect, Susco, Federated Sample, LaunchPad, Novo Communications, Southern Light, Kickboard, MY Info Tech, Mirliton Media, Carver Darden, and Cox.

  • BarCampNOLA - July (TBD)
Assistance organizing what will be the SEVENTH BarCamp in New Orleans is necessary to see this happen again. If anyone is interested or would like to know more about what is involved, drop an email to Matthew Tritico at
[address removed] with questions or for more info.

Other Meetups Mentioned

City of New Orleans is on the hunt for project managers. Check out for openings and details

Thanks to Max Gaudin of AirPnP for his eloquent and very entertaining story behind the source of this projects inspiration (it took everything I had not to interject PEE into that word, thanks to the presentation). Check out, even add your own lavatory to the list, and be sure to follow @leakeasy on Twitter to watch their progress.

Also, be sure to check out as presented by Gant Laborde. This idea was the 2nd place winner at the recent Destination Hackathon. @touracle

Other brave souls that have ideas but are looking for some assistance include:

  • Daniel and Laura Martone who are in search of a developer to work with them to convert their existing mobile tour business into an app.

  • Jeffrey Goodman is looking for folks to kick around ideas around making information more useful for the masses. Hit him up for details or to schedule a mini-meetup.

Finally, Chris Boudy mentioned that he is working on creating a visual timeline of all things tech related in New Orleans. If you have something that you think is worth sharing (and we're pretty sure everything is worth sharing), visit, then click on Help Us to add your noteworthy item.

See you on May 6th,

Adele, Megan and Bryan
