Meet other local people who live in, or are interested in creating community. This isn't your traditional church group. Table Talk is a chance to gather together to wrestle with the tough issues of faith and life in a "happy hour" type setting. All topics are fair game. . . however there are rules of engagement so the art of conversation may be revived. Each gathering will be structured or non-structured. Structured gatherings will begin with a topic presentation, followed by questions from the group to the speaker, then break out into table discussion groups (which the table discussions can carry on the main topic or go off topic). Topics for this year include: "What is the purpose of my life?" "Who is God?" "What is a human being?" "Who is Jesus?" "Why did Jesus die?" "Who or what is the Holy Spirit?" "What is the purpose of a church?" "What does forgiveness mean in everyday life?" All subjects are fair game for table discussion, including the good Victorian 'no-no's (religion, money, sex, and politics) and sports. However, In order to have the most productive conversation possible, and to help us all learn the art of intelligent dialog, the following rules must be adhered to by all participants, or else the transgressor has to buy the next round for all. - Courtesy and respect will be shown at all times. - Commitment will be made to listen and hear the perspectives of others. - All statements that are not explicit facts must include the attitude of it seems to me or I feel. - All participants will work hard to increase their understanding of the issues between meetings.
