I've used both Hortonworks and Cloudera's VM images succesfully from VMWare Fusion on Mac laptops. My experience is that life is good with a beefy 16 GB RAM laptop so you can give the VM 8 GB.

I had installed Oracle Virtualbox and Cloudera SDK for the hands-on session in JC, NJ a few weeks back. Will that suffice instead of VMWare?

    You would need cloudera

I have oracle VM virtualbox and Hortonworks image already installed, will that work or do I need to install the cloudera package.
