Node Brigade #1. An evented I/O event!

It's here! The inaugural Vancouver Node Brigade meetup will be Nov 1st at the HiVE. We have two very excellent nodejs developers kicking off what I hope to be a long standing, excellent developer focused meetup in Vancouver. Mike Cantelon, and Matt Smillie are well suited to be our very first speakers.

Mike Cantelon has nearly 15 years experience designing and developing web solutions using a range of technologies. Mike works for Artefactual Systems helping develop the open source AtoM and Archivematica archival applications. A JavaScript enthusiast, Mike is co-author of the book "Node.js in Action". Get his book and come hear him speak.

I worked with Matt Smillie at Joyent. He has been in software for a dozen years, with experience ranging from telecoms to the web to academic research. Matt has great attention to detail in his work and as a Joyent engineer he has loads of valuable experience running node in production. He works on an amazing team at Joyent developing their cloud infrastructure.

Standing on the shoulders of giants. VanJS is a fantastic local meetup and JavaScript is thriving in this city. It's time to dig deeper into NodeJS. We have lots of space so bring your friends, an open mind, and a sense of adventure. Don't miss this!

Yes, lets get people jobs writing NodeJS. Job recruitment for other positions not accepted though.

Jeff: The only reason why I mention it is why linkedin groups are such a shitshow - they just get spammed by recruiters.

I have no problem with it myself, as long as it's developers posting for developers :)

Anyone coming to CascadiaJS next week? I'd be happy to carpool. There are still a couple of tickets left: https://twitter.com/CascadiaJS/status/263693448924770305

Great turnout. Personally would've liked the talks to be a bit more technical, but you have to start somewhere. :)

A lot of great questions and conversations were generated about real problems that we're facing as nodejs developers.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
