New Meetup: Business of Screenwriting

Announcing a new Meetup for The Richardson Screenwriters Meetup Group!

What: Business of Screenwriting

When: Thursday, July 15,[masked]:00 PM

Los Cabos Addison
17225 Dallas Parkway
Addison, TX 75001

The business of screenwriting is for those who attend the Richardson Screenwriter's Group regular meetups and want to sharpen their selling skills. We'll talk about how best to sell our work and not so much about the work itself.

Meeting Agenda:

1) Let's reward our hard work with a round of applause. The DFW Writer's group does this and I think it works very well. It makes it easier to deal with the rejection that goes with this competitive business and helps keep motivation high. The moderator asks three questions. Anyone who can answer, "Yes," gets to tell all about it and receives a round of applause for their efforts. The questions will be:
(A) Has anyone mailed a query letter, make a query phone call, pitched in person, or entered a contest since our last meeting?
(B) Has anyone had favorable results from a query (either mailed or phoned), pitches or advanced in a contest?
(C) Has anyone had success such as gotten an agent, sold an option, won a contest, or sold their screenplay?

2) Let's share our selling tools. These are query letters, pitches, short (1 or 2 pages) synopses, and

3) Provide one another with helpful hints regarding the selling tools. I think it would be a good idea to use Dave Trottier's The Screen Writer's Bible as a guide for the helpful hints.

4) Conduct the groups business. The questions I would like to resolve are:
(A) How often should we meet (Weekly, Twice Monthly, Monthly)?
(B) Should we continue to use this location?
(C) Should we continue to use Thursdays at 7:00? (I know we used to meet on Fridays but Friday is very difficult for me at this time.)
