A Tale for the Time Being By Ruth Ozeki
(Nominated by Izzy, Page Count: 448)
Ruth Ozeki's A Tale for the Time Being intertwines the story of Nao, a lonely sixteen-year-old in Tokyo writing a diary to document her great-grandmother's life, with that of Ruth, a novelist on a remote Canadian island who finds the diary washed ashore in a Hello Kitty lunchbox after the 2011 tsunami. As Ruth becomes consumed by Nao's turbulent world and uncertain fate, the novel explores time, memory, quantum physics, and the deep connection between writer and reader.

What to Expect
Our book discussion typically lasts 90 minutes. We begin with the book nominator giving their reasons for the choice and their feelings on the book, then each attendee shares their initial thoughts in turn. Following this structured start, the floor is opened for a more free-flowing discussion on themes, characters, and other relevant ideas. The evening often concludes with members moving to the main bar for a social catch-up and a drink.
