Nottingham City & Country Explorers Group, formerly the Nottingham Heritage Interest Group, is dedicated to encouraging people in the Nottingham area to explore all it has to offer. Too often we take it for granted, when there are many amazing, beautiful, valuable, interesting places and activities in Nottingham and the surrounding area waiting to be discovered.
Firstly, Nottingham's historical and archaeological heritage: under this city are more than 500 man-made sandstone caves, a unique feature unparalleled anywhere else in the world. And yet they have largely been forgotten, and many have been destroyed, unbeknownst to the public. We would like to preserve and promote these great attractions, and encourage the public to visit them.
Besides underground Nottingham we are also interested in the above ground heritage, such as its buildings, history, intriguing nooks and crannies, great city walks and so on.
Further afield there are many attractive villages and country areas worth visiting and come to that there are simply many overlooked pubs, cafés, restaurants, shops, parks and other features of the city landscape, which members may be intrigued to find.
Membership is free; all we ask is that you bring your enthusiasm and prepare to be delighted and educated by what secrets Nottingham and the surrounding area has to offer.
