Hi members of the Nottingham Heritage Interest Group.
It's no longer the Nottingham Heritage Interest Group!
The group has been inactive for some time, and in an effort to revive it I have decided to broaden out its remit a bit and make it a bit more accessible. The new "Nottingham City & Country Explorers Group" will still involve a lot of heritage, history and archaeology, but will expand beyond that to include other forms of exploring our local area. We will be finding attractive places to walk or sit in, beautiful villages and stately homes, little-known shops and other establishments, and try out some new activities. Watch this space for more on that.
As regards the heritage side, we have recently been joined by Andy Wyer, who is a qualified archaeologist and keen to introduce us to all manner of archaeological attractions. He begins with a visit to Derby Museum this coming Saturday. Further visits and activities are planned, including a group trip to Cresswell Crags in central Notts, tho that may be next year now.
Also next year I would like to take the group to visit various attractive villages and small towns around Nottingham. Plus I will re-start a series of visits to Nottingham's caves and other marvels of the built environment.
If you would like to lead an exploring activity, or have an idea for one you'd like to see the group do, please get in touch. It is for everyone to take the lead and organise your own exploration of Nottingham city and surrounding country.
