Matt asked me to do a "CLA Deep Dive" session on Saturday. The goal will be to give everyone a better understanding of the core CLA algorithm and its foundations. It will be very interactive. Below are the types of concepts we might cover. I will assume you have read the whitepaper or listened to one of Jeff's longer talks. This is an optional session. If you plan to attend, please let me know if this is too detailed? Too easy? Do you have specific questions? Any feedback will help me focus as we've never done this before.

    Thanks!

    Possible CLA Topics
    ===========

What are useful properties of SDR's?

How sensitive is the output of the spatial pooler to noise?

How do the SDR representations of input A and input B, compare with input A overlapped with B?

What are high order sequences? How does the TP learn them?

What is "bursting" and what does it accomplish?

    How does the CLA generalize?

Forgot to add: another topic on SDRs I am interested to learn more is the relationship between SDRs and Sparse Distributed Memory (i.e. Pentti Kanerva's work). Is there a relationship, and if so, how. Thanks again.

Great questions, Alexander. I'm interested in the answers as well.

If anyone took any pictures at the event, it would be awesome if you could send them to me at [masked]. I'm putting together a blog post, and I would love to include them.

    Thanks!

Great event, convinced to jump in and start experimenting. Numenta seems to be going in the right direction.

At times, it felt more like an info session, but that was still totally worth it.

Great experience. Intelligent people, insightful talks. I was totally new to NuPIC and although I didn't complete a project, I feel like I've learned a lot about the technology and he whole approach.

When I enter 840 Battery St, Google map shows two locations. I am confused. I reserved a room in Club Quarter, 424 Clay st. Is this location close to the meeting location? Google map says it is .3 miles away.

    • Matthew T.

Google maps seems confused. It is at the intersection of Vallejo and Battery. Close to Pier 9 and the Exploratorium.

I can also host for free in mountain view by Caltrain. (San Antonio station)

Just a reminder, if you are attending the hackathon, this link will get you a very good rate of $145/night on a nearby hotel. This is an excellent rate for this area of San Francisco on a weekend. Please take advantage of it if you think you'll want a comfy place to crash.
