Wanted to let everyone know that you can get your scala fix every Saturday with Socially Functional http://www.meetup.com/Functional-Alcoholics/ . There are some great conversations there and you get a sneak peak into what people are working on.

If this venue is going to be used again we need to get a microphone and amp. Also a video/overhead projector. It was nearly impossible to see/hear unless you were in the first row of seats.

great so when's the next one!?

The primer was great. Thanks for taking my meetup idea and making it happen.

Probably it was useful, but I wasn't able to hear anything sitting at the third table

The waitlist does not automatically register you when a spot becomes available. It sends you an email when someone drops out and you have to race everyone else on the waitlist to grab it.

I see "1 spot available" and 1 person in waiting list. Is it by design?

Ok, can't get to it on the mobile app version. I just arrived in NYC.

Yes, where the rsvp button normally is. Don't sweat it if you don't get in tho, we'll probably repeat this talk sometime.

    Is there a wait list?

    March 15, 2011

I should probably have said, bring a laptop if it's convenient. You won't need one to follow along and participate.

I don't have a laptop. Can I partner with somebody with a laptop?

I personally can't make Tuesday or Friday. I normally couldn't make Thursday but I could make the 17th.

I'd prefer the scheduled Wednesday slot, but I could also come on Tuesday the 15th. Not Monday, Thursday, or Friday.

17th is St. Pats. Just saying. 18th is a Friday.

How many people want to move the date or time? It's currently 7:30 pm March 16 and Digitas has offered to host, which is great. I can't do the 18th.

A series of recorded beginner tutorials (similar to the ones for the functional programming group ones) in Scala would be awesome!

Scala is the 2nd most popular JVM language (after Java, obviously) so it seems logical that the Scala meetup group should champion a standard series of beginner's tutorials.

I was playing with Scala 99 problems and would be more than happy to share some of the problems if any1 would be interested.

Sounds good. I've been thinking about a Scala form language X type meetup for a while. I think the sbt up and running talk prob should have come after something like this. Let's come up with a date. I can prob do a talk. I think Nathan and Dustin did something like this before so we prob already have some content.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
