Web Design Trends: The Year Ahead

Staying abreast of web design trends and understanding the conditions that give rise to them are important practices for anyone in the interactive design and communication fields. Mike Kelly will discuss trends rooted in the present and looking forward to 2012, his presentation will touch on the following topics:

The rise and impact of “real” fonts The influence of CSS3 and HTML5 The influence of mobile interfaces on web site design Simplification, immersion and pre-digestion: Single-page sites, fullscreen images, and infographics A must-see for anyone working in the field today.

Mike Kelly (http://www.noble.io/) is the Creative Director of Charlie Noble (http://www.noble.io/) (formerly Hudson Union), an interactive design studio based in New York City, and focused on web and mobile applications. Clients include American Express Publishing, 1800Flowers.com, Hearst Corporation and Time Inc.

A designer, creative team manager, and “product guy” since 1991, Mike has worked with a wide variety of clients including AT&T, IBM, Microsoft, Reuters, Macmillan McGraw Hill and Capitol Records. Mike served as the Director of Experience Design at ZEFER, a usability-focused web consulting company catering to Fortune 500 clients. Mike worked with the Advanced Reading Technologies group at Microsoft helping devise “Tablet Magazine” advertising technologies.

Mike co-founded Undergroundfilm, a broadband film distribution company, and served as General Manager of Pop.com, a joint venture of DreamWorks SKG, Imagine Entertainment and Vulcan Ventures.

Mike is on the faculty of the Columbia Publishing Course (part of the Columbia University School of Journalism), holds a BFA from Tulane University and graduated from Boston Latin.
