Meet Up Description:
The last two years have seen an explosion in alternate, non traditional and unorthodox data stores. Used to be that the only game in town was relational. That is no longer the case. Come stroll down NoSQL Lane and see which new players are available for consideration when selecting a new data store for your project. We will cover a number of products currently in production such as Riak, CouchDB, MongoDB, and Redis among others and explore ideas regarding how to pick the right one for your needs.
A subsequent meetup will be schedule that will deep dive into Riak and its ecosystem of partners.

Speaker: Alexander Sicular
Having been in the medical informatics world for the last 10+ years, Alexander has a strong understanding of what it takes to run really important systems in an unforgiving environment. Medical Informatics is an interesting blend of science and business where both have to get along while encouraging clinical research and adhering to day to day administrative realities. Alexander has built a number of systems in use at Columbia University's Department of Neurology. His current focus is on exploring the benefits of non-traditional databases in this environment.
