abolish student debt!

Do you have student debt? Have friends in debt? Then join us for an event exploring the student debt crisis, who benefits from it, and how we can fight back!

We're young DSAers organizing our peers (in school or already paying back debt) to demand free higher education, and in the meantime significant reforms like an expansion of the Income Based Repayment Program.

Chris Maisano - Jacobin magazine contributor and author of "The Soul of Student Debt"

NYPIRG speaker

Plus breakout groups to discuss the effect of student debt on our own lives and what we can do about it here in NYC.

Open to students and young adults from the general public.

Looks like I won't be able to make it, but I did want to share this issue for discussion:

As a recent law grad with tons of debt, I'm relying on PSLF to enable me to do the public interest work that was my very reason for attending law school. I don't know how individuals in the future could ever follow this path without the prospect of future loan forgiveness. Please feel free to email me with action items or other related materials after the event.

Hi all, Just to clarify if it was not clear from the description: this event is for young people in their 20s and 30s. Young DSAers organized it for their peers, and while we recognize this is an inter-generational problem, we specifically want to start by organizing other young people. Over time we want to expand this work to all generations, but as organizers we want to start with those who feel the problem most directly.
