Beautiful People DVD Release Party at Amity Hall
Details
"Beautiful People", the new Paradox Smoke Productions (http://www.paradoxsmoke.com/)' documentary about the Tuesday night session at Dempsey's Pub in the East Village, will be screened for the final time in Manhattan on this night and newly pressed DVDs of the film with extra footage, outtakes and extended interviews will be available for purchase. So come check out this inside look at what makes the Dempsey's session and its people so special.
Launched in December 1998, the Dempsey's session is the longest-running open traditional Irish session in New York. All are welcome, from beginners to experts. It's also just about the largest session you'll find anywhere. But it's not just the music that makes it special, it's the people, the characters, the camaraderie, the inclusive and energetic spirit every week. "Beautiful People", directed by Elzbieta Szoka and produced by Sam Adelman, looks at 10 members of this weekly only-in-New-York experience. Several members of our group are featured, including John Nevin, Katherine Williams, Sean McNally and Atsushi Amemiya.
Not only that, but we have long had an association with the Dempsey's session. It was the site of our first ever Meetup in March 2007, and it's remained our flagship event throughout our history. We've introduced a number of musicians to Irish music through our participation in this session, helping to fulfill a key part of our mission as a group http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/c/5/5/event_48199541.jpeg.
Doors open at 6:30 and the film starts at 7:15 p.m. Sam has the entire venue reserved for the screening and DVD release party, just head upstairs when you get there. A live traditional Irish music session featuring several Dempsey's regulars will follow the film. There will also be a knitting competition with prizes awarded.
Admission is just $5 at the door. Combination DVD/CDs of "Beautiful People" will be available for purchase for $15 and make excellent gifts for the music lovers on your holiday shopping list.
Please join us and come out and support this wonderful film, see it again and buy a DVD or two to share with others who won't otherwise get a chance to see it.
