Open Traditional Irish Seisiún at Dempsey's with Caitlin Warbelow

Details

It's time for the annual Thanksgiving week session at Dempsey's and on this Tuesday night, we'll welcome fiddler Caitlin Warbelow as guest session leader. Many of you know Caitlin from the local session scene as well as being a member of the Irish Arts Center music faculty. Here's Caitlin's current bio:

Originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, Caitlin Warbelow is a nationally renowned fiddler and violinist residing in New York City. Caitlin began her classical studies at age 3, eventually winning honors from the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts and the National Suzuki Conference, as well as receiving the Joachim and Rice full scholarship at Boston University (where she obtained a BA in violin performance) and merit scholarships at the Meadowmount School, where she studied with Sally Thomas of Juilliard.

In the folk and traditional music realms, she has won the New England Fiddle Championship, the Mid-Atlantic Fleadh Cheoil, and the Lake Champlain Bluegrass Festival, among others. Caitlin has toured with many internationally known artists, including Cherish the Ladies and Michael Londra's Celtic Legends, and performs and records extensively in NYC and around the country.

In addition to a large private teaching studio, she is also on the faculty at Manhattan's Irish Arts Center and the Turtle Bay Music School. She recently produced and is featured on "Manhattan Island Sessions", a live recording of traditional Irish music in NYC Irish pubs, and will soon be releasing a debut solo album as well as a CD/DVD for students of Irish fiddle. Caitlin also has a MA from Columbia University in Urban Planning, a BA from Boston University in Anthropology, and does freelance GIS and cartography work from her home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The Manhattan Island Sessions album can be found on cd baby at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/manhattanislandsessions.

We'll be gathering at the bar from 7 p.m. on for food, beverages and general revelry. Music starts at 8 p.m. The Dempsey's session is the longest running open traditional music session in NY and brings together advanced, intermediate and beginner-level session musicians, skillfully led by our own John Nevin. The session is the subject of the documentary film "Beautiful People (http://www.beautifulpeopleDocFilm.com/)", released earlier this year. Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments and join in with the session. Non-musicians are welcome as well to listen, watch and enjoy.

So come and give thanks for the music and the craic and enjoy a great night of both at Dempsey's.http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/e/1/d/4/event_70617812.jpeg
