Open Traditional Irish Seisiún at Dempsey's with Patrick Mangan

Join us at Dempsey's on this night as we welcome back Riverdance fiddler Patrick Mangan (http://www.patrickmangan.com) as guest musician at the Tuesday night session. Patrick was the first guest musician of the year at Dempsey's back in January and it was a great night. We're thrilled to see him back again so soon and expect nothing less on this night.

Patrick, a Brooklyn native, is a twhttp://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/f/2/8/event_105713032.jpego-time All-Ireland champion who learned Sligo fiddle from the great Brian Conway and was also mentored by the late Andy McGann and Paddy Reynolds. Patrick is truly one of the outstanding young Irish fiddle talents to come out of New York in recent years.

At 16, he appeared in Riverdance on Broadway, the youngest fiddler in the show's history. He's been a featured fiddle soloist in Riverdance since then, touring around the world with the production. He has also played with the John Whelan Band, and performed with renowned vocalist Cathie Ryan and the neo-Celtic group Whirligig.

Patrick's original piece, "September Sky" won first prize honors for instrumental composition in the BMG-sponsored World of Expression competition in 2002. In 2003, he released his debut CD "Farewell to Ireland (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mangan)" and he's currently working on a second album.

With all the touring he's done in recent years, Patrick hasn't gotten to play sessions in New York too often so it'll be a real treat to have him back at Dempsey's on this night. The music starts at 8 and all musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and take advantage of this opportunity to play with one of the top young Irish fiddle players in the world today. We'll meet in the bar area starting at 7:30 (please note the change from the normal meetup time!). Non-musicians are most welcome as well to listen, watch and enjoy. The Dempsey's session is a mix of advanced, intermediate and beginner-level session players capably led by our own John Nevin. It's the longest running open session in New York and the most popular session in town. See you there.
