Tony DeMarco (http://tonydemarcomusic.net)'s unique and world-renowned style of New York Sligo fiddle playing returns to Dempsey's so we're glad to have him back on this night as we wind down our summer season.

Born in Brooklyn to Italian- and Irish-American parents (his mother's maiden name was Dempsey, oddly enough), Tony grew up in a musical family and discovered Irish music through his immersion in the local folk music scene. He adopted the Sligo fiddle style after listening to a Michael Gorman recording. Eventually Tony would take his place among the great Irish fiddle players that New York has produced.

He teamed up with fellow New York Sligo fiddler Brian Conway to record the groundbreaking album "The Apple in Winter (http://www.greenlinnet.com/brian-conway-tony-demarco)" in 1981. He's since recorded his own solo album "The Sligo Indians (http://tonydemarcomusic.net/td.music.html)", considered another shining representation of the American Sligo fiddle style that the New York Irish music scene has shaped.

The music starts at 8 p.m. We'll meet starting at 7 for drinks, food and conversation for all who are interested. The Dempsey's session is a mix of advanced, intermediate and beginner session players, skillfully led by our own John Nevin. It's the subject of the recent documentary film "Beautiful People (http://www.beautifulpeopledocfilm.com/)." Musicians looking to sit in with the sessionhttp://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/7/1/9/event_26498681.jpeg and non-musicians who just want to listen, watch and enjoy are most welcome. See you there.
