Designing for Mobile

Details

This month we have three great speakers lined up to talk about how to approach designing mobile applications:

Du Hoang

Du Hoang is an interactive art director at About.com (http://About.com/), where he designed the food and fitness social network Calorie Count. It has over 5 million members and can be found on the iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Du will talk about the process of designing an app across multiple platforms (iPhone, iPad, Android, and mobile web) and how to keep the design cohesive and on brand while still respect design patterns unique to each platform.

Madelena Mak

Madelena Mak (http://madelenamak.com/) is the Vice President of Design at Purpella (http://purpella.com/), an international startup aimed at helping adolescents to get the most out of their formative years, through great social experiences and activities. She had been active in the design and development of multiple apps in the Windows ecosystem, such as Dear Diary (https://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us/ApplicationDetails?productId=ecf5ed2e-8e1b-421a-b4f6-de56ce189949), Greasemonkey, Shareaza and Trillian (http://trillian.im/), with more than 30 million downloads worldwide. Together with Amanda Flowers, they founded Helping Hands, one of the winners at NYC Big Apps 2013, aimed at building essential support networks for the under-served citizens of New York.

Lena will discuss the design of apps and web apps using the Modern design language spearheaded by Microsoft. Learn how it can benefit your app creations, as well as the best practices that you need to be aware of when pursuing this fantastic route.
