Project Night

Welcome to the first Project Night of 2014, hosted by Chartbeat (@Chartbeat). In addition to the community-backed projects that are sponsored by NYC Python (@nycpython), attendees are encouraged to bring projects they'd like to work on.

Looking for ideas? How about helping to port a library to Python 3? You could also work on submitting a patch to your favorite framework.

Still not sure what to work on? Don't worry, there will be teams looking for additional members to hang out.

If you're looking for help with something, leave a comment to let people know what you're working on.

Doors will open at 6:30. At 6:45 projects will be announced so that people can start working by 7:00. Don't worry if you arrive late, we'll help you find a project to work on.

If anyone is working on a project using gensim or NLTK, or is interested in trying to figure out how to use them, let me know!

Tonight is not going to work out for me, but I would be interested in helping to port libraries to Python 3.

Looking to extend some open source wrappers around shipping APIs (for USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc.). There are a few out there for each service, but API coverage is pretty spotty and inconsistent.

Are newbies welcome or is it mainly more advanced?

Anybody working on an EdX-related project, by chance? It's built with Django, and I'm trying to do some things with the platform. New to this meetup and interested to see how it works. See you there!

I'll be in London at http://pydata.org/ldn2014 telling folks across the pond about what an awesome community we've built here in NYC.

So is this like a little hackathon where we try to finish something in the same evening?

    February 14, 2014

    • Andy D.

Sort of, but not really. There are no judges and no presentations at the end. It's more of a chance to get some work done on a project that you haven't gotten around to doing. Or you can help someone else get work done on their project.
