Good SharePoint development is all about knowing SharePoint itself thoroughly. In order to find the most efficient, agile solution to any set of requirements the SharePoint developer has to know what can be accomplished out-of-the-box, what can be accomplished with declarative tools like InfoPath and SharePoint Desigher 2010 and what is best done with Visual Studio.
In this session, Kathryn Birstein will walkthrough a calendaring application from requirements to deployment, discussing the most important decision points and demonstrating how calculated fields, a bit of Javascript, a third party web part and a feature with four event receivers combined to create the solution.
The two WSPs that make up the solution, the site template and the event receiver feature, will be provided!
