There was so many people that it should have been a fire hazard to have so many people in such a small location. You could restrict the number of people who RSVP via Meetup based on the space the venue has next time.

Agree completely--It should have been held at a venue at least twice as large, preferably with adequate ventilation (!). Also, I would have advised specifically not holding it during Fashion Week--too many conflicting events at the same time. On the plus side, however, the speakers from Gilt Groupe and Conde Nast in particular were interesting and informative.

Too much fashion and not enough tech. Why was that girl asking the panel questions towards the end there? Thanks for taking the time to put things together though. I'm still glad that I attended.

    September 11, 2013

    • andy

I felt the opposite. Not enough fashion, too much tech jargon (and I'm a professional Web developer). I was happy for the event, but man there were a lot of people in that small space.

Do you mean in preparation for HS or during your time there? Either way, I don't think there is one right answer, but the advice I've received is to contribute to a project (a gem, API, etc.) that you yourself plan on using extensively, and could benefit from becoming familiar with. As a side note, I've also been told one of the best ways to get started is to contribute to the documentation of a project, since documentation doesn't get as much attention as code and therefore tends to be relatively low in quality.

Comments here should only be posted by software engineers, job requirements should not be posted on NYSE comments.

    February 12, 2013

    • james

bro, you should welcome these comments!! you want to have as many people talking as possible!!!

      February 13, 2013

    • Michael L.

Job requirements are not appropriate for comments, trust me. Once it gets started it is a non-stop barrage of them, and most engineers get enough job spam. I hold job fairs to keep recruiting out of the picture at our main events. None the less I always welcome conversation about other subjects.
