ONADC August Meetup — Trove

Details

Trove welcomes ONA members to hear what it takes to move from a traditional newsroom to a tech startup environment.

If you aren’t familiar with Trove, we aggregate news from thousands of sources, allowing readers to create customized news streams on any topic.

In addition the reader-curated “Troves”, readers can also follow verticals curated by a team of editors. Trove editors bring a wealth of journalism experience in both traditional and digital newsrooms. They will be there to answer your questions about what it is like to work at a tech company and the skills you need.

Here's who will be speaking:

Emily Hazzard is an editor at Trove, where she promotes great stories on social media and mans the news desk. She's previously worked at Al Jazeera and The Atlantic. Follow her two favorite troves, "I Love Dogs (http://trove.com/channels/141949/content)" and "Books, Reading, and Literacy (http://trove.com/channels/142291/content)."

Rachel Hatzipanagos has a background in newspapers and online media. She was previously a reporter at the Sun Sentinel newspaper in Florida and an editor at Patch in Northern Virginia before joining Trove as an associate editor. Her Twitter handle is @rachelbianca (https://twitter.com/rachelbianca).

Danielle Marshak manages digital marketing at Trove, with a focus on mobile user acquisition. Previously, she managed relationships with the 90+ publishers who host content on Trove. She joined the team by way of the Brown Daily Herald, where she served as General Manager while in college. She doesn't tweet much, but you can follow her trove on "The Business of Journalism (http://trove.com/channels/161220/content?)".

Greg Lavallee is an Engineer at Trove, where he juggles the trove.com (http://trove.com/) web app and Android app as well as lots of other big and little things that glue it all together. Greg is an accidental engineer in that he went to school for linguistics and thought he'd be a professor, but now codes software instead. His twitter handle is @greglavallee for boring things and @elgreg for a complete firehose of nonsense.

Feel free to check out Trove online (http://www.trove.com/) (or visit us in the app store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/trove/id426504578?mt=8)) before the meeting,

Hope to see you there.
