Hello, ONADC — We miss you.

We are taking September off from our regular meetup because ... Wait for it ... We are hoping to see many of you at the annual Online News Association conference in San Francisco next week.

ONA12 promises to be the journalism/techie/fun event of the year!

We are thrilled so many active ONADC regulars will be there, especially our very own meetup organizer Laura Cochran, who again this year is the co-chair for the volunteer teams you will see all around the convention. You know, the friendly, lovely people who are handing you a registration bag or answering your questions or being sure the speakers have a mic and all that. Yes, they rock. And, yes, Laura makes sure all those folks are in place. She has the spreadsheet to prove it!

We're a little bummed because we have other news: Laura is leaving D.C. She has a great new job at Digital First Media in New York City, so she's moving there soon. We're happy for the ONANYC group because they get an awesome new member and we could not be more thrilled for her happy job news, but we'd be remiss if we did not thank Laura for starting up this group and being a driving force in connecting ONA members with each other in Washington. Buy her a drink in San Francisco. You know she'd do it for you (and, honestly she has over all these years by finding sponsors for the booze at our meetups).

Then there's ONADC's other rock star, Greg Linch, who again be coordinating the live streaming teams so those of you who cannot make it can still be there virtually. Greg still needs a coupla more volunteers, if you can help. Details here: http://bit.ly/ONA12vvolr ... And did we mention, you’ll get a FREE registration to what is now a sold-out conference? Think about it. Do check the site next week and thank Greg for all that rich video.

Finally, for those of you who are in San Francisco next week, it's time to rev up those pipes for some song stylings, San Fran style. Yes, ONA (unofficial) karaoke is back on Sept. 22! Event page here. Hashtag: #ONA12karaoke

Whew. So much.

But before we sign off, start planning now for this excellent event in October.

We give you this ...

Election Hackathon
at The Washington Post

The Election Hackathon is a chance for developers to show off their skills and shed light on the upcoming Presidential Elections. The hackathon will take place from Saturday, October 6th to Sunday October 7th. We are looking for innovative, useful and relevant apps that leverage data from The Washington Post, NPR, and Sunlight Labs API's, as well as any other additional sources you think may be relevant. At the end of the hackathon, the developers who create the best, most inspiring apps will receive prizes in various categories.
