ONADC - the DC Area Online News Association Meetup Group Message Board › Details on Tuesday's ONA meetup at AU
We're looking forward to seeing you at 7 on Tuesday night at American University.
Here are some helpful details that. we hope, will make it easier to plan:
Where can I park?
There is a parking lot on Nebraska Avenue, just across from the main campus. Tons of spots + we are told it's free after 5 p.m., which is nice.
The closest Metro stop to American University is Tenleytown/AU (also called Tenley Circle) on the Red Line. Metro buses run regularly from Tenley Circle to American's campus, less than a mile away. Metro can give you information on specific route and timetables for buses and trains. Call its information service at (202) 637-7000.
Where are we meeting on campus?
Ward Circle Building, Room 2
4400 Massachusetts Avenue Northwest
What's on the program?
The best approach for data? You've got a huge dataset and you're not sure what to do with it. Dumping mountains of data on your readers isn't an option, so how do you make sure you're analyzing, synthesizing and presenting that data in the best way possible? Learn about how The New York Times approached one such project — Toxic Waters, which has won several major journalism awards — from Derek Willis at this month's meetup. Willis, a member of the Times' Interactive News Technology team, will discuss his role as a data journalist/developer and walk through the project.
Food and beverages will be kindly provided by USA TODAY.
Where we will go after?
Chef Geoff's is just down the street. We will head there for drinks after the meetup. Plan accordingly.
See you all on Tuesday night!
Laura, Tiffany and Matt
