Ready to have some hands on? We will be diagramming, as in DOCUMENTATION, an ethernet network.
Start with basic tools like arp-scan, and nmap to auto-discover what is really out there.. get a list of Mac addresses and IPs. nmap will also try to fingerprint the devices to determine what OS or firmware it is running.
Maybe we will kick on Observium to start collecting data on the devices over SNMP and get lots of pretty graphs! (pssst, it's really easy). I'll show you the one we put up at work last week, lotsa pretty pics.
Lastly, how to translate that info into a useful piece of documentation? I'll have some examples and we will draw a simple network map and discuss why it is so damn important to get done.
Still discussing: A system to manage/facilitate presentations at the Maker Space. This system would allow for video+audio capture from multiple sources, switching the projector(s) input feeds from available inputs, Wall clock control, etc.
