Any Suggestions for Sending Bulk Email?

Hi everyone!

Recently I've been asked to send out a mass e-mail blast for my dad's nonprofit somewhere in the order of 650 messages or so.  I'm probably going to set up postfix on one of my VPS, but I've got a couple questions:

* Is there anything I need to do to make sure I don't land on any blacklists, and that my messages don't get flagged as spam.  So far, I know I'll be rate limiting the outgoing mail and making sure my rDNS is set up, but so far, that's about it.

* Is there a better piece of software for this? If this is successful, I suspect they may want to send more in the future.  I don't anticipate them sending more than a handful per year, but I'd rather get them set up with something that'll keep up with their needs in the first place.

* Confirmations: Are there any good ways, besides parsing through the logs, to confirm that the emails were successfully received and not flagged or anything?

Or is this a relatively negligible amount of traffic to send out?  I've never run a mail server, so I really don't know what counts as a lot or a little traffic.

Thanks,
Collin
