Open Street Map happening Saturday Afternoon...

Hurricane McEwen of is coming out to Dallas to promote the OpenStreet Maps project.

  • Want to learn more about the location based services a good map database can provide?
  • Need karma points by contributing to an OSS project perhaps?
  • Have a free afternoon, and/or time for a beer afterwards?

If you have never been to the Trinity Pub, it is at 75 & Mockingbird, adjacent to DART Rail's Mockingbird Station, beside the Angelika Theater.

I am planning on doing the afternoon and wanted to pass this opportunity along...

Mapping parties are events where anyone can come and participate in the OpenStreetMap project.

OpenStreetMap is a free, open source map that can be contributed, edited and used by anyone anywhere!! Improve the hiking trails, locate the bike paths or create the best Coffee Shop or Pub crawl map ever!!

These are social events where experienced and new mappers can meet to share and learn more about the project. The events are generally held in a public place, and allow time for discussion, mapping and editing. The event is open to all.

They are relaxed events and you're supposed to have fun. Often we grab a beer or a glass of wine after the event, and this is no exception!

The general run of the day looks like this:
12pm Introduction to mapping and send experienced mappers out on their way!

12:30 loan out GPS and a short intro on how to use them
12-4 map map map ;)
4 Meet back up at Trinity Hall Pub and upload data
4ish and on-- beer time!!??
