Just a heads up!
So we spent most of Sat talking about DD-WRT, wireless, frequency allocation, synchronous nature of radio, packet filtering, WPA vs WEP encryption, role of a VPN over wireless, Hedy Lamarr
Los Lupes was gearing up for Cinco de Mayo, and also for Taste of Addison, so our little WiFi project was on the back burner (so to speak). I have been in contact with Mr Alvarez and he says that we are go for testing after the big catering events are behind them.
It should be setup and ready to go by the next meeting!
Extra bonus, the Beckley Brew House
in Oak Cliff has a similar, but simpler, need. Will be assisting them with a DD-WRT based solution this month as well. Their critical need is that when the link gets saturated with multiple WiFi users - the DSL collapses! So we will use bandwidth shaping to make sure that the DSL line never saturates, and QoS to make sure the internal devices (credit card machine, Pandora music service) have basic priority over just surfing. With Open Source... everybody wins!
Lastly: Even though I will be Hawaii next meeting, the group will still be meeting with various members taking the reins.
More as it develops!
