Data Integration with Open Source Tools

Data integration is the process of moving and combining data across the information system. It typically consists of extracting data from different sources (databases, files, applications, Web Services, emails, etc.), applying transformations (join, lookup, deduplication, calculation, etc.) to this data and sending the resulting data to target systems.

What free and open source tools are available to move data and integrate systems? Are they capable of integrating flat files, databases, xml, excel, web services, and provide a number of transformation and cleansing routines?

This meetup will be the first in a training session format we are considering and a staff of a prominent open source company working in Austin is offering a free training session.
