Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About OpenStack at Scale

Details

The Red Sky offices in Draper worked well for us last month and we will be there again this month. Our presentation will be by our very own Mike Wilson with Mirantis. He will give one of the two presentations he gave at the Austin Summit for the Architectural Decisions (https://www.openstack.org/summit/austin-2016/summit-schedule/global-search?t=Architectural+Decisions) track. Of course, enhanced, expanded, new and improved for his Utah friends.

Mirantis will be our sponsor for the food.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About OpenStack at Scale

A de facto guide to the scaling models, capabilities and limits of all OpenStack components. I will cover all core projects, their components and the limitations of each. In general, OpenStack scaling models fit into three categories: vertically scalable, horizontally scalable or sharded, which is a special case of horizontally scalable. Along with this overview I will take the opportunity to review structural details, future plans and past mistakes. Q&A should be a large part of this presentation. Please attend with lots of questions to ask.

Bio

Mike Wilson is a Systems Architect at Mirantis. His experience with OpenStack includes upstream developmen as well as being the principal architect and lead in setting up one of the largest OpenStack deployments in the world in his time with Bluehost. Previous to this, Mike worked for Familysearch and was responsible for maintaining large scale multi-regional installations with thousands of compute nodes and several petabytes of data. He attended Brigham Young University where he studied Computer Science. Mike currently focuses full time on OpenStack at Mirantis, particularly in partnership with AT&T in the design and operation of their ginormous telco-grade OpenStack based cloud platform: AT&T Integrated Cloud.

We meet on the 4th Thursday of each month. This is our regularly scheduled monthly meet-up.
