SFBay OpenStack Hackathon #OSSFO

  • Sep 18, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This hackathon format is still evolving. We will have some OpenStack training and some hacking on a common blueprint and/or bug, if the folks present choose to do so.

This week's agenda:

• Training: the plan is to review the chapters in the Associates Training Guide.

• Blueprint and/or bug (TBD)

We are still working on sorting out the remote attendance. If we can, the link will be posted as a comment here and tweeted out via @sarob, or @hpcloudangel, or @revansHP, 15 minutes before the meetup starts.

Updates will be published via the meetup email list, OpenStack community blog, and twitter.

Join or login to comment.

Good meetup. It was my first Hangouts hosting so please forgive the technical difficulties at the beginning.

@Patyi, Thank you so much for volunteering to handle the video hangout at the last meeting. It was a learning experience for all of us. And I think it eventually turned out well. :-)

Sure anytime. (when I am able to go to the session). I am not sure about the next 2..., but If i can go then can offer my laptop again. Does the meetup has some-kind of budget? Because at least when I am watching the youtube video it is lagging. So maybe an extra hardware could do the trick. So far I found this device in one of the forum:
      http://www.newegg.com...

      What do you think?

Plus are there any official youtube channel for this session?

Hi Everyone! Yes, agreed, we (Sean, Rick, Me) are working on an agenda that we will publish several weeks out. As Sean says, this is evolving. Your feedback is valuable!
Thanks Csaba for setting up the Google Hangout and recording it.
And Everyone - SO SORRY I couldn't make it last night! I was nursing a sick doggie - shuttling back and forth to the vet. I did check out the (entire) Google Hangout recording so I was with you in spirit! :)
And the wonderful Alina hooked you all up with pizza and beer so I trust you were well taken care of! ;)
    See you in 2 weeks!!!!
    Cheers,
    Lisa

    Hi Everybody.

    Here is the youtube link.

Later I think we will move it fro my personal youtube channel to some-kind of Openstack center youtube chanel. What do you think Rick? Are there any existing youtube channel for this Openstack meetup? Or should we create one?

Thank you Patyi, this is an awesome idea. If we could have a series of introduction sessions videos, Rick doesn't have to talk about the basic things over and over again, the regular participants won't feel so bored, and it is also very helpful to remote people and for those who can't make it.

Csaba - this was SO awesome of you to record! I watched the whole thing! :) Well done!!!

I would like to second that. Let's set a fixed agenda for the next meetup with a set of goals and stick to it.

Want to thank Rick for hosting the meetup and going over the cloud and openstack basics, and Patyi, for getting the audio/video for remote folks. Each meetup we could have:
    # Fixed agenda.
    # pointers to pre-requisite material/pointers if needed
    # any pre-req setup for hands-on exercise (devstack for instance).

We should make it clear to everybody attending that the hackathon is not for newbies so we can move forward with whatever is the agenda for that week. And we should also set an agenda/activity or a topic for discussion ahead of time.

Reminder: Tonight (18Sep14) the plan is to review the chapters in the Associates Training Guide:
    http://docs.openstack.org/training-guides/content/bk_associate-training-guide.html

Additional topics and discussions are also welcome.

Also, I'd appreciate it if someone who is attending live would volunteer to run the Google Hangout on their laptop.

    Hi Lisa,
I missed the last one for beginners. Would you recommend this session for absolute beginners or is this for mid to advance experience cloud programmers?

    Thanks,
    Anu

https://try.github.io/... --> this is for basic git commands

      September 16, 2014

    • Lisa-Marie N.

Hi Anu, last time I thought the discussion would be to "in the weeds" for beginners, but it turns out that it may in fact be educational to all levels. So if you would like to come and listen and learn, you are welcome. The beginner track however will continue to be a more formal "Intro to OpenStack" presentation where you can ask questions, etc. So really it's up to you. The format for the hackathon is generally a smaller discussion group and more interactive. Rick will be walking through the training guide tonight.

Can someone put the hangout link on time this time? Last time remote people ask for the link for an hour, and there is no response at all

    September 17, 2014

    • Rick E.

I would like to ask the local attendees if one of you would please volunteer to take responsibility to host and manage the Google Hangout on your laptop during the meeting.

  • Rick E.

This Thursday (18Sep14) let's review the chapters in the Associates Training Guide: http://docs.openstack.org/training-guides/content/bk_associate-training-guide.html

(FYI: My new laptop has not arrived yet, so I won't be able to do any demonstrations.)

We're always open to any additional topics.

I will bring my headset again. Just in case :)

  • Bill

Wish I could join. I may be on the road, in which case even the hangout may not be available to me :(
