South Bay OpenStack Meetup, InstallFest and Hackathon

OpenStack hackathon, South Bay style. We'll have OpenStack core team members on hand for designing, coding, or advice, and if any beginners turn up then we'll run a presentation session explaining what OpenStack is and how it all fits together.

Beer, food, whiteboards and wifi provided by Citrix. Bring a laptop if you want to code or to try an all-in-one install to take away with you.

These will run on alternate weeks from the San Francisco meetups. All the cool kids go to both.

The second room for the InstallFest was great. DVD's with Ubuntu 11.10 were available as were Citrix OpenStack devs. Luckily devStack was providing a solid build so a number of us were actually able to use the product.

In the future, I recommend telling people to come with Ubuntu 11.10 installed and snapshot on a VM. That way they can jump into devStack. Several people left frustrated that they spent the entire time installing Ubuntu on their VM.

I'm interesting in details about the multiple Vlan config and floating ips, optimizing performance for specific hardware configurations, how to monitor the project for recent stable builds [masked]), and how Keystone works compared to injecting credentials from nova-manage. Troubleshooting help for "basic" 1-2 demo box problems.

I look forward to my first OpenStack meeting...as newbie, I would like to attend any overview and meet people involved in the OpenStack Quantum (virtual network service).

My motivation is to meet the players, and find out how I can help in ancillary (non-code) ways.

I'd really like to know more about Keystone. For example, Keystone has "role" concept, but how do you grant a specific permission, say, creating a VM in nova, to certain role? And what is the syntax of endpointTemplate? what IP address will %HOST_IP% be substituted with?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
