OpenStack Essex Doc Day

Come help us get OpenStack docs in shape for the OpenStack Essex release. This event will last from 9 am - 4 pm, and lunch will be provided. The session will kick off with a half-hour overview of doc process and tools, followed by collaboration and independent work. Please register so we can order the right amount of food and drinks. This is a "bring your own laptop" event.  Similar to our Doc Days in the past, the goal for the Doc Day is to sprint to the release finish line for documentation. The Essex release is April 5th, and the documentation has been pacing along with development, but there are still gaps to fill. Here are some ideas for documentation work:
  • Configuration information about new flags now available in the Essex release
  • Insert nova client commands where euca- commands are in the current documentation
  • Document API extensions for operators and cloud users, such as the Volume API
  • Set up and configuration for switching from RabbitMQ to Qpid
  • Volume how-tos for setting up additional backends
Following doc sprint day, we encourage you to stick around for the  TryStack meetup, which will start at 6 pm in the Rackspace office. We'll start "happy hour" at 4 pm, with time to hang out, enjoy ping pong and foosball at the Rackspace office! Picture below from Austin Doc Day, March 2010, courtesy of Anne Gentle:

Great to see openstackers talking docs and getting things done.

Amar, most of the listed priorities are for Nova, but Swift certainly can use more docs. A few that spring to mind are integration with Keystone, conceptual information about object storage and the ring, and day-to-day operations. There's a filter tutorial for example https://bugs.launchpad.net/opens... that might be an easy copy-and-cleanup doc task. The day-long 9-4 is our suggestion but you can hack on docs earlier or later. Thanks for asking!

Roy, copy editing and logging bugs against docs is a good task for newbies. Pizza fetching, well, I guess it's fuel. :) Also, the TryStack process changed slightly last week so now that you're a member of the TryStack group, you don't need to wait on an invite, you can click a new "Login using Facebook" link on http://trystack.org/dash/. Let me know how it goes!

Is this primarily for Nova or also Swift? If Swift also, same timings?

:) All are welcome to carry water for content developers. Just kidding - there are great tools like devstack.org and trystack.org now that give you access to a working stack immediately. And fixing doc bugs works just like fixing code so you are welcome to join in.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
